CASE STUDY
Kingsway Community Church in San Jose, CA, is a non-denominational church that adopted a “church-spread” model, which involved planting campuses in different neighborhoods. They were one church spread over two campuses.
In early 2017, they made the decision to merge their two San Jose campuses into one location. Each campus had its own website, but with the merge, they wanted to reflect this consolidation by having only one on-line presence.
The merge provided the perfect opportunity to for Kingsway Community Church to rebrand themselves— appealing to San Jose’s ethnically diverse, technologically focused population, with an emphasis on attracting younger families. A Virga Design recommended customizing a mobile-friendly CMS theme with a modern look and feel to reach that audience.

The church’s executive staff was already familiar with using Squarespace, so building the new website with that platform was a comfortable decision. The primary approach we used for updating Kingsway’s visual identity was through prominent imagery to support each web pages’ content. We used a blend of striking stock photography to provide a level of refinement and the church’s candid photos for authenticity.
Additionally, the website was enhanced with a significant amount custom CSS to alter the CMS theme’s typographic, color and content placement options. The finishing touch was to integrate Tithe.ly—an easy, online method for people to give donations—which also makes available a downloadable mobile app for convenience. Since 2013, A Virga Design provides monthly website maintenance as well as creates supporting print collateral for Kingsway Community Church.
