CASE STUDY

Lewis and Tibbitts, Inc., a San Jose, CA-based contractor, specializes in trenching and excavating. Although the company is more 40 years old, they wanted a contemporary website while preserving their traditional ethos. They also wanted a website they could maintain themselves after the initial launch.

Customizing a responsive WordPress template would meet their needs: a modern, mobile-friendly interface and the ability to do their own updates. The client was received a highly-detailed site architecture diagram and static page design comps, before we moved into development.

Our design approach included using Lewis & Tibbitts’ original logo to preserve brand recognition.

We married the company’s historical roots with a fresh, contemporary vibe achieved through color, typography and a clean, structured layout. We curated a custom color palette for the website: a vibrant red to convey the strength, deep blue for stability and a concrete gray to lend an industrial feel.

The fonts used were classic and easy to read.  We recommended the client hire a professional photographer to take new headshots of their executive staff along with an all-company photo. Template customization included heavy CSS modifications and adding various plug-ins to extend their WordPress theme’s functionality. The final website proved successful: Lewis & Tibbitts received the contemporary and engaging website they needed.
